Originally born in Spain, Cristina BanBan returns to Granada for her institutional debut at Museo de la Alhambra from May 2025 to September 2025. Titled in reference to the Spanish poet Federico Garcia Lorca, the works center BanBan´s familiar, diaristic female figures under a more personal context. The deep red room that holds the exhibition pieces makes way for her perspective on the male gazes affects on female confidence and acceptance.
During a recent interview with the Louisiana Channel, BanBan confronts greater social contracts surrounding the female body: stating that the female form, while foundational to Art History around the globe and across cultures, is not “new”, but the work being produced with the female gaze is, and it is important to the current climate She also references her early childhood - carrying around a notebook daily, her understanding of sketch and painting practices differs….
